Medals instituted during the Reign of King Albert II (1993-2013)
This bronze medal was instituted on 25 March 2018 as "The Commemorative Medal for Missions or Operations in Connection with the operational Defence of the Home Territory". It is awarded to military personnel who served for a minimum of 30 days within one year in the Vigilant Guardian operation, including this operation's variants Central Guardian (reinforcements deployed in prisons) and Spring Guardian (guarding nuclear sites). Each additional period of 90 days is indicated by an Arabic numeral affixed on the medal's ribbon.
Supporting civilian personnel of the Defence Ministry can obtain the medal under the same award conditions.
